Today, Monday, November 2, 2026 marks the beginning of a refreshed website and new energy about getting a positive word out about Haiti. So many times what comes our way via the news is "the bad". Don't get me wrong! There are huge challenges facing our Haitian neighbors: the tragic gang situation in the greater Port au Prince area, the deportations from the USA due to the ending of the Temporary Protection Status program, the stress on the Haitian economy caused by the war in Iran and higher fuel prices. Life in Haiti hasn't been getting any easier. But there are good news stories too! The gang situation has stabilized in the area where the The PEACE Project works. People living there call it "The New System" meaning that, while gangs extort money on a daily basis for everything from walking down the street (25¢) to living in one's own house ($125), there is not the street fighting that was going on a year or so ago. And so life goes on. Because PEACE Project was well established before the gang takeover, our programs are continuing unabated. We have solid, trustworthy, capable people running them. But they need our support more than ever before because Haiti continues to be a difficult place to live. The people we are helping still hope for a better day in the future and we are working to be a strength to them. Thanks for coming along with us on the journey.
